Night Owl (Cards)

Continuing the Backlog of Cards Sent to Me From Generous People series of blog posts, last month none other than Night Owl sent over a big stack of Dodgers awesomeness. It was quite a surprise to say the least–cards from all over the baseball card spectrum. Relics, patches, autos (IP even!), inserts, shiny, die-cut, vintage, oddball, serial-numbered, parallels, rookie cards, wrapper redemptions, online exclusives–they’re all here. Even a Ron Cey card is here. Here’s a sampling of what was sent:

I’m pretty sure these cards were sent in response to the complete run of 2018 Topps Dodgers 60th Anniversary stadium giveaway cards I sent to Night Owl. I’m flattered that he kept me in mind all this time. So from one diehard Dodger fan to another, we give a rousing Stadium Fantasium standing ovation to Night Owl. Huzzah! Thanks so much! Stay tuned…

Happy (“Season of Giving” – Nachos Grande)

Note from Nachos Grande

Last month I was happy to receive a package of cards in the mail from esteemed fellow blogger Chris of Nachos Grande. Chris was kind enough to take some time to look through the few want lists I have on this blog and gifted me these great-looking cards (the 1969 Topps design is my 2nd favorite Topps design of all time):

Cards from Nachos Grande

Most of these cards are from 2018 Topps Heritage–Topps did a really great job of recreating the 1969 Topps baseball design (although it would have been even more faithful to the ’69 set if the team name of the Astros cards was actually “HOUSTON”). Chris also included an insert card from the 2018 Topps flagship set. I thought it was so cool that it was a 35th Anniversary 1983 Topps Barry Larkin, seeing that Chris has a huge Barry Larkin PC. Obviously, this was a duplicate and I’m grateful for it and all the others.

This was not the first time I received cards from Chris, as noted here in a previous Stadium Fantasium post. A big Stadium Fantasium standing ovation goes out to Chris! btw, I’m also happy that I’ve finally added my 2019 Topps Heritage trade list to the Stadium Fantasium Trading Block, so take a look. Stay tuned…

Do You Remember (the Astrodome)

Mailday from Marc (Remember the Astrodome)

Back in December, I made a rather sizeable trade on Trading Card Database with Bru of the Marc Brubaker blog (formerly Remember the Astrodome). I sent Marc some ’90’s oddball cards (1990 Jumbo California Sunflower Seeds, 1993 Upper Deck Denny’s Holograms, 1996 Denny’s Holograms, a 2019 Topps Heritage Max Scherzer Candy Lid, a 2019 Topps Heritage Khris Davis Scratch-Off and a nice original 1969 Topps #458 Curt Blefary of the Astros). Marc sent me a big stack of cards I needed to move closer to completing various sets. Check ’em out:

Most of the cards I received are 2019 Topps Heritage (including a couple of short-prints) but I also received a 2018 Topps card and a 1996 Denny’s Hologram card of Tony Gwynn. I really love the 2019 Topps Heritage set and I’m happy that Marc put a huge dent in my want list. This set is about 87% complete. But tracking down those remaining short-print cards and those pesky Action Variation cards will take considerable time (and probably money). Still, at least I now have most of the inserts.

A warm Stadium Fantasium standing ovation goes out to Marc for this awesome trade. I look forward to more trades with Marc. Stay tuned…

Right Place, Wrong Time (for a Secret Santa Post)

2019 Secret Santa

Yes, I should have posted my Secret Santa gift last month but rumor has it that it’s better late than never. Thanks to Jon of A Pennysleeve for your Thoughts, a total of 32 card bloggers and Trading Card Database (TCDB) members had a Secret Santa gift exchange. My Secret Santa turned out to be a longtime TCDB member/guru who goes by the user name “vroomed”. If I remember correctly, I received my gift one or two weeks before Christmas. vroomed sent a nice stack of Dodgers cards from various products:

Assorted 2014 Topps Heritage Dodger cards

Whoa, some impressive 2016 Topps Heritage cards here including two Chrome (Kershaw and Puig), a Purple Chrome, and Action Variation and a relic card!

All of the above cards look really nice. I especially appreciate that vroomed sent me some serial-numbered cards including the 2015 Topps Gold Brandon League.

The Bowman’s Best Hi Def Heritage Atomic Refractor Corey Seager is a very thick card. The two Chasing History inserts are from the 2013 Topps Mini set. The Sandy Koufax insert is a 1987 Topps Mini insert from the 2012 Topps flagship set. The Fernando Valenzuela is a 1985 O-Pee-Chee sticker. Thanks so much, vroomed!

Both vroomed and Jon deserve a super Stadium Fantasium standing ovation and sincere gratitude for the Secret Santa gift exchange–you guys rock!

And here are the contest results:

Congratulations to Mark for correctly choosing the game-winning team and being closest to the margin of victory! For Mark’s Gold Contest winnings, Mark will receive first choice of three of the contest prize lots (pictured below)!

And we have a tie! Both Jon and Mark predicted that Wisconsin would be leading at halftime by three and both were exactly right. Both will get two prize lots. Since Jon posted his prediction prior to Mark posting his prediction, Jon will choose his Silver Contest winnings before Mark chooses his Silver Contest winnings.

Bronze Contest Winner - Matt!

Congratulation to Matt for the closest prediction of Total Points Scored. Matt will receive his choice of one prize lot (after the Gold Contest winner and Silver Contest winners have chosen).

4th Place Winner - Bo!

We here at Stadium Fantasium really love the hobby community and our fellow bloggers. In that spirit, we can’t let fellow blogger Bo go empty-handed. So Bo will be receiving a pair of brand new 2020 Souvenir Rose Bowl cups. As the song says “Every 1’s a Winner“.

My apologies for not posting the contest results sooner. Between working, attending a high school reunion/gathering and regular life activities, I’ve been pretty busy. And besides that, this post is one of the most elaborate, time-consuming posts I’ve ever put together but I really enjoyed putting it together.

Contest winners can let me know their choice of prize lots in the Comments section below (or via email). I will be updating winners’ prize lot claims in this post below as they become known.

Winners Winnings (Updated)

  1. First up is Mark to claim three prize lots for winning the Gold Contest. Mark has claimed Baseball Prize Lot #6 (Joe Jackson & Kyle Hendricks), Baseball Prize Lot #10 (Dodger SGA Pack & Pins) and Baseball Prize Lot #11 (Didi Gregorius Patch & 1989 Donruss A/S Pack).
  2. Then Jon will get to claim two prize lots for winning the Silver Contest and winning the tiebreaker. Jon has chosen Football Prize Lot #1 (1960 Topps #31 Cleveland Browns Team Card/Checklist with one sealed 9-card cello pack of 1993 Score Football cards and Football Prize Lot #2 (one complete boxed set of 1989 Topps Traded Football with one sealed 4-card cello promo pack containing a mix of 2005 Leaf Certified Material, Donruss Elite and Playoff.
  3. Mark then gets to claim two additional prize lots for being a co-winner of the Silver Contest. Mark claims Baseball Prize Lot #8 (2019 Update Box Topper, etc.) and Baseball Prize Lot #9 (2019 Finest Pack & 1989 Donruss Rack Pack).
  4. Then our Bronze Contest winner, Matt, will have a chance to claim a prize lot. Matt has claimed Baseball Prize Lot #7 (2017 Topps High Tek Autographs HT-CC Carlos Carrasco and one retail pack 2007 Fleer Baseball cards).
  5. Jon will then get to choose an additional prize lot because he helped promote the contest on his blog (which I really, really  appreciate!).
